It is the age of tablets, iPads and mobile phones. Our minds are ever so busy, flipping from one screen image to the next. Yes, in the few minutes of rest we are granted in this day and age, we can get more “bang” for the minute by flipping through the screens. But…the mess carries forward in our minds.
It is a time, where we ought to force ourselves to dedicate an hour to read, slowly and relaxedly….. Garden…. Get lost in nature…. to stay healthy. And it is a habit that we need to try to cultivate in the next generation. Yes, easy said than done!

Reading takes you to a different place…. Away from the current reality… A reading nook is designed with the same concept….
- The curtains cocoons and separates you from the surrounding.
- A bean bag or a floor cushion with a lot of throw pillows help you to stay comfortable, supporting as you shift and shuffle through a long read.
- Of course a basket filled with books and/or wall shelves or a standing shelf will keep the books neat and off the floor.
- It is particularly important to add a reading lamp, especially if there isn’t enough natural light…., to protect the eyes.

At a time in 2021 where ourselves and our kids spend more time secluded at home, reading would be a great hobby to cultivate… It will help us and the kids broaden horizons beyond them walls and keep the mind relaxed and steady.
