100% cotton handloom bean bags in ZAHAARA Sanctuary's Ethnic Range are a treat to the eye, colourfast in the wash, shrinkage controlled and so...so... comfortable! Woven with dyed natural cotton thread, they are as environmentally friendly as it gets. Through this range we aspire to support the centuries old handloom industry of Sri Lanka where fabrics are woven with a hand operated machine by talented females mostly descending from weaving families. It gives us the rare opportunity to promote an industry that empowers females and households in weaving villages.
Fun Fact - When Prince Vijaya landed in Sri Lankan shores in BCE 543 from India, the indigenous princess of then Sri Lanka, Kuveni, was weaving cotton with a handloom machine! Vijaya married the princess and established a kingdom in Sri Lanka calling it Sinhapura. And that's the origin of Sri Lankans.
Note: Pick a less sunny spot for these in your home, as colours may fade with continuous exposure to the harsh sun.
